ICeniuye phelps@century21 dickinson.com REAL ESTATE Q: Are all Real Estate agents Realtors? Dick Phelps A: That may seem like a silly question at first but rest assured, it is a very serious question. In order to be designated a Realtor, a real estate agent must be a member of the National Association of Realtors. The most important aspect of being a Realtor is that the agent agrees to be held to a higher standard by agreeing to adhere to the strict Code of Ethics established by the National Association of Realtors. This strict Code of Ethics has been used as a guideline by many institutions and businesses to design their own Code of Ethics. A Realtor agrees to abide and adhere to the strict Code of Ethics. In doing so, the Realtor affords the following fiduciary dues to their client; Loyalty - they will act in the client's best interest. Obedience - they will carry out all client's lawful instructions. Disclosure - they will disclose to their client all material facts of which they have knowledge which might reasonably affect the clients use of the property. Confidentiality |- they will keep client's confidences unless required by law to disclose. Reasonable Care - they will use reasonable care in performing their duties. Accounting- they will account to the client for all client's money and property received. Buying or selling a home can be one of the largest financial transactions in your life. Working with a Realtor will make the transaction smoother and less stressful.
