SENIOR LIVING Q. My mother-in-law lives several hundred miles away. Her health is failing, and she is in a position where some help around the house would be great, but she does not get that where she is at. She does not want to leave her longtime home and friends, even though she seldom sees them. How do we convince her to make the move to a setting such as yours and be close to us? Chuck Jensen General Services Manager A. You probably will never convince her to make a move but you can encourage her and show her why such a move would be beneficial to her. Experience shows that the best way to encourage a move is to have her visit the properties that you would like to see her move into. Then she sees for herself what is offered, can visit with the people who already live there, and can get a feel for the "lay of the land" so to speak. With the holidays approaching, many families are traveling at these time This makes a great opportunity to visit a housing campus where she lives, or if she is coming to you, to visit a local campus. Above all, be considerate of her feelings Don't force the issue, and be prepared to listen!Lastly, the staff at a senior campus like ours can be a great resource, so please do not hesitate to call us.
