AUDIOLOGY My 3-year old daughter suffers from chronic ear infections. While doing some research on the internet I read that ear infections can cause hearing loss. Should I be concerned about her hearing? A: Children who suffer from chronic ear Heather Timm infections are at an increased risk for hearing loss. When a child (or anyone, for that matter) has fluid behind the eardrum it can result in a decrease in hearing sensitivity. Most often, when the fluid resolves (goes away) hearing is returned to normal. In some cases, prolonged ear infections can lead to scarring of the eardrum which results in permanent hearing loss. If your child has chronic ear infections, it is always a good idea to have their hearing checked, especially during the early years when language is developing. Between the ages of 3-4 years, your child should be able to: hear you when you call from another room, hear the television or radio at the same loudness level as family members, and understand simple "who," "what," "where?" questions. If your daughter is not meeting these milestones or if you feel you have noticed a change in her hearing, I would recommend a hearing test Please call Advantage Audiology today if you would like to schedule an appointment or have any further questions! ildren who suffer from chronic ear Au, D., CCC-A dvantageAudiology & HEARING HEALTHCARE 677 Anne Street NW, Suite G.
