REHAB SERVICES Q: What is hand therapy? A: Hand therapy is rehabilitation for your hand or upper extremity either before or after surgery, and sometimes used as a conservative approach to avoid surgery. You may need hand therapy if you have pain, tingling, swelling, or stiffness from your job or from an injury. Hand therapy consists of a comprehensive assessment involving the history of your injury, current limitations and identifying individualized treatment options to help you regain the use of your hand for your daily activities. Our treatment sessions may include range of motion, strengthening, manual therapy/massage, customized splints, wound care, and use of a variety of modalities. We will work with you on establishing a home exercise program for you to gain the skills to manage your injury. Right here at Sanford Bemidji we have a very experienced and specialized hand therapy department that has extensively worked with local and regional specialized surgeons and physicians. Our team consists of Occupational Therapists with over 30 years of experience specializing in rehabilitation of the hand and upper extremity. If you are experiencing discomfort or pain in your hands, thumbs, wrists, elbows, or arms please talk to your doctor. If you have your care out of town, your local hand therapy team is experienced, highly skilled, and ready to help you through your rehabilitation journey right here at home.
