NUTRITION Q: Do you have some advice for how to make healthy food choices this summer? A: Summertime brings so many changes Jessica Carter Registered and Licensed Dietitian to our lives, but nothing seems to change more than the foods we eat. There seems to be a BBQ nearly each evening and ice cream around every corner. I always advise clients to pick their battles and find balance however they can. For example, if you are at a family reunion and Aunt Ethel made her world famous brownies - then have one! Just forgo the bun with your burger that day to help balance the carb intake. When you do indulge make sure you incorporate some movement and this can be as easy as taking a walk in the evening. Try to keep the added sugars to a minimum by eliminating extras like pop and juice. Stay hydrated with mint or lime water instead. Choose fresh fruit or find a recipe for a low carb dessert such as this amazing rhubarb crisp that I personally make that uses crushed nuts and almond meal instead of oats and flour. Make use of all the fresh produce that is available this time of year by having salads or grilled veggies at each meal. The key is to find balance in your day between food and activity. If you would like the recipe to the rhubarb crisp mentioned above or have further questions feel free to reach out to me through email. Have a great week! 218-556-9089 CORE HEALTH 1900 Division St., Unit 1 NUTRITION & YOGA Bemidji, MN corehealthbemidji.com NUTRITION Q: Do you have some advice for how to make healthy food choices this summer?
